In John Barling's science classes at Vernon Secondary School in Vernon, British Columbia, students have learned how to harness the power of the sun to run hot-dog cookers, greenhouses and swimming pool heating systems. They've also taken to the road in solar-powered cars of Mr. Barling's design and entered them in university races in the United States. Mr. Barling is also active in science fairs at his school and in the surrounding region.
